Energy healing sources: skill and choice

Energy healing is available to us all – not just the natural healers among us, not for the special or most spiritual few! Connect in to the source of the energy, become the “hollow bone”, and just let the energy flow. And make sure it’s source energy you are flowing, not your own – then you can stay strong in your own body.

Nice and easy, right? But what does it actually mean? What is source energy, and how do we connect to it? Do we just decide to connect to source, and then the energy flows through us? Is it that simple?

As always, the answer is both yes and no.

What is Source, anyway?

All of us who walk a visionary healing path, the kind of spirituality that finds a home in the practices of energy healing and magical ceremony, believe in source energy. We may differ in how we describe it, how we give it context in our lives and in our work. But we believe that our world is energetic and vibrational in nature, and that there is a creative force at work behind our world. Something spirited, something divine. Some people call it god but really it is beyond easy categorisation. I think of it as divinity, but also as a kind of collective, creative soul that we are all a part of.

So, yes. With something as simple as our intention, we can connect with source energy and move it in alignment with our desired outcome. And, no. It’s not quite that simple.

Channeling source energy is a skill

There are many methods for connecting with energy sources – most of them simple and pure. In Reiki, raise our hands or move into gassho position and focus on our tanden. In shamanic work, we purify and call in our allies, calling or singing our prayers of intention (among other things). In deity work we make offerings and invocations, in angelic and high frequency work we say prayers and hold visualisations. For more earthy works we stand on the ground, pushing our roots in and drawing up supporting currents from below.

In order to be a powerful channel for any of these energies, we must learn these small connection rituals so that they become second nature, so that the flow continues to be strong even once we turn our attention to our client, or our healing or magical intention. And of course, we must do all the supporting work so that we can be more of a “hollow bone” – a clearer channel for the work. All of this requires practice and dedication, it is a skill to be cultivated over time. Intention and desire, yes. But also, the work.

“Source” is too big – what are you choosing?

We are none of us, no matter how grandiose our work, channeling the whole of the divine creative source when we work. We are just little humans ๐Ÿ™‚ We are part of the whole, only, and we draw through a part of the whole when we work. Different aspects of source energy lend themselves more easily to different types of healing work or magical intention. They feel different as they work through us, and they produce a slightly different quality of energy and results for our clients.

I sometimes hear, “Oh, it’s all the same thing. Source energy is source energy.” I remember speaking to a Reiki and shamanic teacher once who told me there was no difference whatsoever in the work. That it all feels the same because it is them. I was absolutely baffled! I was so bemused by an energy worker who couldn’t feel into the nuances of source, I never forgot it as a comment.

First of all, even if you have one preferred system, there is a spectrum even within that energy. Take Reiki as an example. It is sometimes said we are “attuned” to the symbols at Reiki 2, but that is not true at all. The Reiki energy source (or, if you like, the particular emanation of divine creative flow that makes up the Reiki frequency) is a very particular spectrum of energy. In receiving a Reiki attunement, you are connected to the whole of that spectrum. What you learn to do later is narrow your focus to particular frequencies within that frequency (often but not exclusively by using symbols). It’s not an add on, it is greater focus and skill. It is nuance. And those individual frequencies, so similar and close together, do not feel the same as one another.

Compare that to connecting with the energy of the earth, or water for healing purposes. There are so many things that those particular frequencies of source energy are suited to, and in the hands of a skilled and sensitive healer, each of those channels not only accesses different medicine, but feel different as well. And, if working with the natural elements as a way into healing, why stop at those four? Fire energy is one thing -โ€‚but is it a small flame? A growing light, the sun, the stars? That union of fire and earth, lava? Lightning? Likewise, forests, deserts and mountains obviously possess different medicine, even different types of crystals do. Same for the sea, the river and the rain.

We are not channeling the whole. We are choosing our medicine.

(me, choosing some very particular medicine!)

Energy is not just a tool, it is a relationship

Much like when working with deity, I consider these energetic pathways to be sacred. These are not just tools to be picked up and used, then put away when you’re done. For limited results, sure. But for lasting results and our continued development as practitioners, there is no substitute for the real work.

The best Reiki practitioners work with the energy every day, and learn the language of it deep in their own bodies. The best shamanic healers I have ever met consider their work to be prayer and ceremony. They cultivate connection and understanding through consistent practice and devotion to the path. The same is true of every type of energy we work with. On the one hand we work become hollow, but on the other we are always feeling, always listening, always learning from the energy itself. And as we tread these distinct energetic pathways, we become ever more one with Source.

Build your skills

Everything I offer is form of this ๐Ÿ™‚ But coming up I do have a couple of very exciting trainings that may call to you if this blog post resonates!

The Four Elements: Transformation is a 5 week course I am co-teaching with Sorita d’Este, beginning this Sunday 04 February. Every Sunday night we will work through each of the elements in turn, ending with Spirit (wait – is that source? Yes and no ๐Ÿ˜‰ ) You can find out full information and booking links here.

Unconquerable: a 6 month journey of self-healing mastery is a brand new programme that will open for applications next week. It is built on a my experience of teaching my Intuitive Healer and Way of the Weaver courses from 2008 onwards, and of course my own personal healing and development work. One of its main foundations is for each healer to delve into their own personal medicine by discovering the source of their power. We start in May, and although booking is not open quite yet you can learn more here.

Hope to see you on the journey!
